Remember James Carville's words from the 1992 US presidential elections campaign: "It's the economy stupid!" ?
In the event sustainability world studies have found that the main culprit for an event's carbon footprint is usually transportation. Some figures assign upward of 80% of an event's carbon footprint to transportation. So how does EventMapStudio address transportation?
In three ways:
- Event Definition
- Event Layout
- Communication
Event Definition
At the event definition level you can specify whether or not you have a transportation plan for the public, a transportation plan for the staff and artists, and a carbon offset program. If you do you can actually upload these plans to the web site to share them with the various stakeholders.
Event Layout
In your event layout you can include transportation components that will help you reduce your event carbon's footprint. These include bicycle parking, car-share parking, carpool parking, electric car parking, bicycles racks, bus & shuttle drop off and pickup areas, and public transportation. You can leverage our Event Intelligence wizards to locate and include area mass transit such as bus stop, or train and subway stations, and bicycle sharing stations.
Communication
Finally, to publicize the presence of sustainable transportation options you have included on your layout you can choose to automatically generate a public map. This map will be visible to eventgoers on their phone or on your event's web site and will help them choose more sustainable transportation options, thus decreasing you event's carbon footprint.
